Mechanical Engineering's, Melissa Williams is Recongnized as a Valuable Staff Member to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va., Mar 24, 2009 --Mechanical Engineering's faculty, staff, and students well know Melissa's contributions to our department. In 2006, she was also recognized by the College of Engineering, receiving the Dean's Award for Exemplary Performance. This award given, for demonstrating an on-going willingness to help others within the department, college, and university; for improving the morale among co-workers; and for outstanding on-the-job commitment, and self-motivation. She received the 2008 Virginia Tech Staff Leadership Award for regularly demonstrating the behaviors of a strong leader in support of the goals of the university, college, and department. She is now being recognized by the university as the staff employee of the week.

Being nominated for these awards from all departmental levels, including the staff she supervises, her immediate supervisor, and the Mechanical Engineering Department Head is a testament to Melissa's effectiveness as a leader and exceptional employee. She is a skilled communicator, contributor, and manager among the faculty, staff, and student groups she works with on a daily basis. Furthermore, she is credited for having a unique ability to adjust management style to the individual, which is appreciated among her staff.

Melissa eludes professionalism, makes training and development a priority, and sets an example for other staff to follow.
