BLACKSBURG, Va., Mar 02, 2009 --Professor Jan Helge Bøhn Receives Alumni Award for Excellence in International Education.
Through international partnerships launched by Dr. Bøhn, his vision for preparing engineering students for a global economy is being achieved. Dr. Bøhn’s accomplishments include an unparalleled partnership with Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUD) in Germany that includes opportunities for BS, MS, and doctoral students. Prof. Bøhn’s efforts have resulted in several new degree plan options, including the dual BSME degree program where VT and TUD mechanical engineering students complete their senior year at the other university to earn a BSME degree from both universities; and a dual MSME degree program, with thesis, where the students spend one year at each university to earn a MSME degree from both universities.
The partnerships launched by Prof. Bøhn have been credited for revolutionizing international education at Virginia Tech, and for having set the standard for international university partnerships and creating a model for others to emulate.
For his notable efforts sustained throughout his career, Jan Helge Bøhn will be presented the Alumni Award for Excellence in International Education on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center.
