We strongly encourage students to visit the Virginia Tech Career Services website and sign up for the Hokies-4-Hire on-campus interview program. The Career Services website has some very useful information on writing resumes, interviewing, and joining the co-op and internship programs.
About 25% of our mechanical engineering students participate in the co-op program before they graduate. The vast majority of the other ME students have engineering internships or related work experience by the time they graduate. Students should sign up for a required co-op orientation session if they with to find out more about the co-op program.
Our courses are scheduled in a way that makes it easier for co-op students and interns to take the courses they need when they need them. Students work with a Career Services representative and the departmental career advisor to carefully plan a work/school schedule when the student enters the co-op program. Co-op students typically graduate in 5 years (with 3-4 work terms) and spend their entire senior year (fall & spring) at Virginia Tech.
