Team

Since 1994, HEVT has designed and built prototype hybrid electric vehicles for government and industry sponsored advanced technology vehicle competitions. In the spring of 2004, HEVT's proposal to compete in the 2005 Challenge X (cX) competition was accepted, along with 16 other teams from top North American universities. The goal of this competition is to improve a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox with regards to fuel economy and emissions while maintaining the vehicle's stock performance levels. HEVT expects to realize a 30% increase in fuel economy while maintaining superior vehicle performance and low emissions.

Our cX hybrid vehicle design is powered by an ethanol fueled engine and two electric motors, and utilizes a NiMH battery pack for energy storage. The current design is expected to reduce petroleum use by an incredible 80%. Reducing the amount of petroleum used for personal transportation is becoming an increasingly important issue environmentally and economically. We hope that our efforts will contribute to the overall goal of cleaner more efficient vehicles.
