The EXTREME Laboratory is an interdisciplinary laboratory where experimental and computational research is performed on material response at high temperatures and loads as well as combustion and fire dynamics processes.
The laboratory contains a range of facilities that allows experimental work to be conducted from the micro-scale up to large-scale, including high temperature property measurement. Experimental work at this wide range of scales is used to understand the microscopic interdisciplinary processes that lead to macroscopic response and support development of computational models to predict these behaviors. Facilities are also available to fabricate composite materials.
Computational research is performed in the areas of mechanics, thermo-structural response, heat and mass transfer, combustion, and fire dynamics.
