Samuel K. Shimp III graduated in 2006 with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University. As a BYU undergraduate Sam was a member of the university's inaugural Formula SAE team. He currently resides in Blacksburg, VA with his wife and son where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. He has been a member of the Center for Vehicle Systems & Safety at Virginia Tech since July 2006.
Before attending BYU, Sam spent two years as a volunteer missionary in La Paz, Bolivia. He has since taught Spanish and missionary skills to prospective volunteers. Sam is also an avid Boy Scouter and serves as a local scout leader. He has also had the opportunity to conduct several engineering merit badge workshops for scouts of all ages.
