In accordance with the initiatives of the National Federation of the Blind, the 2008-2009
phase of the project will culminate with the following deliverables. First, there will be a
public demonstration during which a blind driver will safely navigate the vehicle through a
closed driving course delineated by traffic cones. This demonstration will be an ideal
opportunity for positive public exposure via local and potentially national media coverage.
Another national media event scheduled for the BDC is its participation as a keynote
exhibition for the 2009 NFB Youth Slam. The Blind Driver System and its demonstration of
fundamental engineering design principles will serve as the basis for a week-long workshop
designed to inspire and empower blind youth to pursue careers in math, science, engineering, and
technology. The week will culminate with the opportunity for select blind youth from around the
world to have their first independent driving experience in the Blind Driver Vehicle in a safe and
highly controlled closed driving course.
