Hyperloop Team of Virginia Tech
Hyperloop was first introduced by Elon Musk whose vision of an innovative high-speed rail could transform freight transport and domestic travel. It is a system designed to carry people or cargo in pods through vacuum-sealed tubes over long distances. People could travel between NYC and DC within 30 minutes using Hyperloop technology.
To make this vision a reality, Hyperloop teams across the globe design and build pods to race on SpaceX’s test track in Hawthorne, CA. Since 2013, Hyperloop at Virginia Tech has represented the university on an international stage in the annual pod competition hosted by SpaceX. We have established ourselves by finishing in the top 20 out of 2000 applicants every year. But starting in 2020, our mission goes beyond winning the competition. Our interdisciplinary team of over 90 members will focus on research projects directly impacting the industry by partnering with companies to develop technology at the forefront of Hyperloop transportation. We are taking lead in R&D to accelerate Hyperloop’s integration into modern infrastructure.
